What does it take to cultivate future patrons of the arts?

Marti knows.

Since 2006 Marti has led the only multi-year research dedicated to the issue of attracting, engaging and retaining younger patrons (ages 20-40) to the arts.  Her research - underwritten by the Lilly Endowment and conducted with the leadership of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and participation from over two dozen arts organization - has become the focus of the bi-annual Next Audiences Summit, and the talk of art conferences across the U.S. and Canada

Sessions Available:

1.  What Does the Next Generation Want, Anyway?: Engaging New Audiences by Re-Crafting the Patron Experience

Of all the time patrons invest to attend your organization's event, only 33% of it is spent enjoying the art itself.  In addition, your younger patrons (20-40 year olds) may value different things than traditional ticket-holders and attendees. In this session you will;

  • Examine all five phases of the patron experience, and learn what you can do to make each phase positive and user-friendly;
  • See your offering through the lens of the next generation, to determine just how engaging it really is, based on the things they value;
  • Learn how one question can help you gauge patrons' satisfaction and take the guess-work out of knowing how promotable your organization or events really are.

2.  Digging Deeper into the Patron Experience

This session digs deeper into the concepts and tools Marti addressed in her keynote session.  In this session you will:

  • Receive a copy of the Next Audiences: Patron Experience Audit Tool that NGC uses to analyze the entire 5-Phase patron experience;
  • Learn how your organization can put the patron audit tool to use;
  • Brainstorm and discuss ideas to sharpen the patron experience using the "Think-Feel-Do" technique;
  • Learn fresh ideas that positively impact your Net Promoter Score.
