In response to local CEOs’ concerns in regard to attracting and retaining young talent, genKC was formed. Together with the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce works as a convener for genKC, setting a platform to connect the creative demographic in an 11-county stretch across Kansas and Missouri through social networking. Led by a steering committee made up of 20 and 30-somethings from area companies and organizations, genKC is coordinated for young professionals; by young professionals hosting events that grant attendees access to popular venues, and some of the most sought after personalities in the region. In just a short time, genKC has become one of the premier networking events for young professionals in Greater Kansas City. Hosting over 1,200millennials at its inaugural event, genKC’s growing popularity provides attendees with a base to connect with civic organizations, and develop business contacts with other likeminded individuals.
