What will keep college grads in your state?

Through a survey of nearly 4,000 Michigan college students the Michigan Colleges Foundation (MCF) in partnership with Next Generation Consulting set out to discover the answers to three central questions:

  1. Why - and how - do Michigan college students form their opinions about Michigan communities?;
  2. What can we do to address their perceptions, and reposition Michigan as a smart choice for smart graduates?; and
  3. What - beyond jobs - do they value in “cool communities?”

This study also addressed students’ perceptions of Next Generation's seven quality of life indexes and is phase one of MCF’s Think Michigan campaign – an integrated, Michigan-focused strategy to attract, engage and retain the state’s top young talent.

The survey indicated that successfully keeping this young talent in Michigan will depend upon the ability of businesses and learning institutions to partner together to promote to these students specific quality of life amenities NOT just limited to good-paying jobs and affordable housing.
