We closed our site’s forums last month. Here’s proof:
None of you will miss the forums because - well - they sucked. Our Forum was a neat little idea…for 2006. But Forums can’t compete in a Facebook world.
Intellagirl taught us that the key to getting people to come to your online party is to be a great host.
It’s not enough to create an online group; you also have to work it like a host would - invite interesting people, pose great topics, keep the music (entertainment) going, and refill the snacks (content). Basically, make sure people are having a darn good time.
Truth is, we closed our forums for two reasons: (1) We were spending more time at other parties (Twitter and Facebook), and (2) The forum started to feel really dated and out of touch…like hosting a party for your adult friends in your parents’ damn, wood-paneled basement.
