Using Web 2.0 to grow your YPO

In Sarah Robbins’ presentation at the YP Summit today, she shared tools, ideas, and strategies to use technology to reach and grow your network.  Here are a couple highlights:

  • Sarah’s betting on Facebook over MySpace as the best free social network to reach young professionals.
  • Starbucks uses Twitter to send sales codes, e.g. tell the cashier the coupon code you received, and get a discount.  Zappos does the same thing.
  • Netvibes.com and Google allow you to pull all your online, dispersed web presences - and their tags - onto one, single web page.  Don’t pay anyone to build your site!  This single page becomes an aggregation of all the web-based information you’re interested in.

Sarah says, “Google is like our tech overlords, and I embrace them.”

Want to increase your open rate on emails?  Test: Send the same body of the message with three different subject lines, and see which one works.
