The Thank You Economy

I believe in gratitude

Today the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce  is doing a Thank-A-Thon. Its board, ambassadors, staff, and volunteers are calling 1,346 members individually to thank them for being members.

When I left at 11 am (I’m on the board) our shift had just completed 500 calls. And you know what? It felt great to reach out and thank our members. How would you feel if someone called you just to say, “Thank you for being a member?”

Gary Vaynerchuk ‘s new book, The Thank You Economy  predicts that the mass-produced-mass-marketing economy is dying. Tools like Facebook  and Twitter  give us more ways than ever to interact with - and thank - our members, clients, fans and followers. The tools might be new-fangled, but the business principle is as old as time: take great care of your customers - show them everyday that you’re thankful for their business - and you’ll prosper.

Whom do you have to thank? A high school teacher who showed you some tough love and kept you out of trouble? A mentor who gave you a chance to succeed when you really needed it? A client who’s been loyal from Day One?

Today, reach out and thank someone. Tell them exactly what they mean to you, and why. You will make their day. And yours, too.
