(Milwaukee, WI) I don’t have cable TV at home. So when I’m on the road, I indulge. Last night, I was flipping between “The Dog Whisperer” and “Nanny 911” in my hotel room and realized: THEY’RE THE SAME SHOW. In the first, Cesar Millan (cutie!) teaches pet owners how to lead the pack. In the latter, a chubby Brit teaches American parents how to lead their families.
Packs. Families. Teams. Whatever. Both shows are about leadership, group dynamics, the importance of order and, yes, even discipline. Dog families – known as “packs” - need alpha leaders who will impart order and discipline. Dogs need to know who the boss is. People packs – known as “families” – need parents who assert authority and control over their children. Seems that both children and puppies behave better when they know who’s the boss of them.
Cesar’s book, Cesar’s Way, is available in stores now. Even if you don’t have a dog, it’s a great read.
DISCLOSURE - My dependents: 2 dogs, 0 children.
