I read a book called The Experience Economy a couple years ago. Good stuff. But I just FELT the experience economy 7 minutes ago when my mini ipod arrived. The packaging is brilliant. Small. Light. A green box to match the color of the ipod I’ve selected. Inside the green box, minimal white packaging with modest icons indicating where the headphones, firewire, and software could be found. As if I needed encouragement, “Enjoy” was written in simple gray lettering on the inner package. How perfectly simple. How utterly refereshing. Believe what you read: Apple is setting the standards for design… and helping us feel what the experience economy could be like when done right.
