When you see a photo of Wicker Park in Chicago, you KNOW it’s Wicker Park. The Castro in San Fran, Uptown in the Twin Cities… Next Cities have aesthetically distinct and differentiated neighborhoods. Yesterday I was driving through a suburb and saw row after row of what I call “Monster-hausen.” They’re huge. And from the freeway, the looked as if they’d been dropped row by row from a giant crane onto the street. If I’d snapped a photo of this neighborhood and posted it here, would they know where it was? If you lived there, would it feel like home?
