How NOT to respond to a recession

Yikes. The headline for this  news item literally made me shudder.

It seems to confirm my fear that some companies are reacting to the current economic climate in a very dangerous way - by attempting to recreate the workplaces of the past, despite the fact that the world has moved on. For these companies I have two simple reminders: a) Creating great workplaces has never meant ‘catering’ to anyone (Gen Y or otherwise), and b) the demographic fundamentals have not changed!

Next Companies are still hiring and developing young talent, and creating workplaces to which the best and brightest are attracted. In fact, I would wager many of them are benefiting from the actions of less progressive companies, by snapping up available talent. I wonder who is going to be in a better position as we emerge from this recession?
