I awoke at 4 a.m. local time in Las Vegas this morning. I can never REALLY recalibrate my internal clock: I always wake up by 6 CST. So, I got up to find a coffee and a quiet place to work (I’m diligently incorporating presentation zen techniques into my decks - google it).
Finding a quiet place to work was a real problem. I walked for BLOCKS around my hotel and for miles within it (the Wynn, the $2.9 B hotel which didn’t install wireless.) I could not get away from the music, theater promotions, and marketing that belch from every crevice in floor, sidewalk, and ceiling.
What a difference a week makes. Just four days ago, I was paddling a kayak along the shores of Belize. The only noises I heard were strong breezes and the groan of my paddle pushing through water.
But then again Belize didn’t have wireless, either. I guess I’ll have to carry my “quiet place” within me… because I sure can’t find it here.
