Even my Barber has a Blog

What’s all the fuss about having a blog?

Blogs allow you to state your point of view.  To show your personality.  To go out on a limb.  To speak your truth.  If you don’t have a point of view, a personality, a limb, or personal truth, blogs are a waste of yours - and others’ - time.  Most blogs are completely misused.  It seems the further up the Power Ladder you go, the more watered down and edited blogs become.  Yuck.  If you’re more interested in covering your ass, saving face, smoke-and-mirrors, and spin, save us all the broadband and call a PR professional, wouldya?

But I digress.  Blogs can be great tools, if you have the chutzpah to be real.  Which leads me to my barber, Shelly.  I was in her chair yesterday at Cha Cha, when Shelly told me about their new website.  I couldn’t sleep this morning, so I clicked in.  It rocks.  It’s outrageous (look at the June 26 Janet’s-in-town photos) and clearly has a point of view.  Shelly’s blog is the home page, and the copy is written with that in-your-face, love-it-or-leave-it Cha Cha style.  Tats are hangin’ out, drinks are being served, and folks are grinding.  The copy, the photos, the layout: 100% pure Cha Cha.  An utterly good use of a blog.

That doesn’t mean that you’re going to groove on Cha Cha’s blog.  If you’ve never been to Cha Cha - or are a prude - chachahair.com is not for you.

And that’s my final point: if you’re writing for everyone with your blog, you’re engaging almost no one.

Shelly, congrats on a kick-ass site and blog.
