$7,900 for text messaging?

The president of one of our clients - let’s call him Bob, since that’s his name - recently shared this “generational moment” with me.

Bob is a well-intentioned Baby Boomer boss.  His company has made huge investments to provide great technology to their employees; nearly everyone carries a Blackberry, and you can get online anytime, anywhere.

But Bob fired off a flamer to his executive leadership team when he saw an eye-popping $7,900 fee for text messaging on the company-wide cell phone plan.

Why,” he asked, ”are we spending this kind of money on text messaging?

Within seconds, Bob’s Blackberry was crackling with equally emotional responses from his team.  Among the most compelling?  TMing is a communication pipeline to the company’s next gen workforce.

Bob approved the fee.

(Good job, Bob.)
