Milwaukee’s Blue Light Special

Last week we talked about North Dakota's bizarre attempt to pay (read: bribe) young talent to stay there. This week, we're taking you to Milwaukee for a Blue Light Special.

Milwaukee - with the help of Pat Algiers [Kahler Slater] is turnin' on its blue lights. Last fall, Pat and her team mapped Milwaukee's tech corridor. Count 'em: over 200 high tech companies drizzled along Milwaukee's main arteries. [No wonder the Utne Reader calls Milwaukee the best kept secret in the US, and our Hot Jobs - Cool Communities report nails it as the 10th coolest in the country for young talent, techie or not.]

So at dusk on Wednesday night, every tech company in Milwaukee turned on a blue light: a circle with a vertical slash down the middle, the international symbol of energy. The blue lights serve as a visual reminder to Milwaukee - and all who travel there - that Milwaukee is a cool community for high tech companies and the talent that staff them.

What visual reminders tout your community's coolness? For more best practices, contact us any time: (888) 922-9596
